Community Update
Captain Anthony Butler
Captain Butler gave an update on crime statistics in north Lincoln during 2021. One stat that increased in 2021 was auto thefts, many driven by people leaving their cars unlocked and/or running. Police community outreach activities ticked up last year. Police representatives are proactively visiting business in their precincts to introduce themselves. The LPD has gone from 5 teams to 4 and Captain Butler’s team moved offices. One other crime stat he spoke to was package thefts. Overall package thefts were down over the holidays, but for some reason have started ticking up now after the holidays.
Assistant Chief Pat Borer
Chief Borer opened his update up to questions but also started by stating the LFR is an all-hazards department. This means they assist in much more than just fires. LFR is applying for a grant to recruit additional personal. He also spoke about the turn around on fire vehicles and their life span. Chief Borer was asked about the efficiency of sending out a fire engine or truck to each call, even the medical only calls. Another member asked about the water/ice rescue teams.
