Community Update
Assistant Chief Pat Borer – LFR
AC Borer gave the group an update about happenings in the Lincoln Fire and Rescue. Pat was interim Chief for 4 or 5 months during the height of COVID before Chief Engler was named interim and eventually the permanent Chief. Over the last year, they have opened the 5th of 5 new stations. Earlier in 2021, LFR closed on new property on South 40th street for a future station which they have already realized the need for. LFR is hoping to get funding next year. Pat was asked if LFR and LPD will office together going forward at new stations. He said not necessarily, but he does really like the partnership and in fact is looking for other potential partnerships like what they have with LPD. Pat was also asked about Task Force 1. Pat is a member of Task Force 1 and spoke to what the team has been doing during this storm season.
Captain Anthony Butler – LPD
Captain Butler gave an update on the crime activity in north Lincoln. Anthony also spoke on the colocation stations for LFR and LPD. He said he really appreciates the forward thinking that was given into the design. For LPD, the next building project is for NE Station on 56 and R street. It’s an existing building they will remodel. They are also looking for new ground in the southwest area. Chief Ewins will come speak to NLBA on February 10th. Auto thefts are up in Lincoln. Violent crime is down 21% in 2021 for other crime is down 18%. Football detail has started in the North Bottoms.
